Controversies • Shah Rukh was charged with unlawfully using a plot of land in 2001; the land had been given to her mother in exchange for an annual license fee. He broke the law and failed to pay the license fee, for which he was fined Rs 12,627. The family not only neglected to pay the license fee, but they also broke the law by constructing a residential complex there.

• A brawl broke out between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan in 2008 during Katrina Kaif‘s birthday celebration. Salman allegedly made fun of Shah Rukh a lot when he and his wife, Gauri Khan, arrived at the location. He seemed to be angry with Shah Rukh Khan for not making a brief appearance in his brother Sohail Khan’s movie “Main Aur Mrs. Khanna.”

• He caused a stir in 2012 when he gave Farah Khan’s husband, Shirish Kunder, a slap at a party.

• In 2012, he was banned from Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and received backlash for physically abusing a security guard during an IPL match there.

• In 2013, the Indian Radiological and Imaging Associations denounced his claim that he would use surrogacy to have a boy born. They questioned how, given India’s ban on sex determination, he could know the baby’s sex. But later on, BMC gave him a clean sheet.

• In 2012, while attending an IPL match in Rajasthan, he was observed smoking in public.

• Following his remarks at an event about “extreme intolerance” in India, Shah Rukh Khan found himself embroiled in a significant controversy. The problem led to multiple demonstrations against him and his later-released movie “Dilwale.” The actor later clarified that his remarks were misunderstood and that this is why he was in trouble. The actor adamantly stated that he never claimed that India lacked tolerance. He went on to clarify that although he had initially declined to comment, he had later said that young people should focus on transforming India into a secular and forward-thinking nation.

• He was accused by a local group in 2016 of building a ramp outside his bungalow in violation of heritage regulations; the ramp was later taken down by BMC officials.

• After he said that he occasionally became a target for political leaders, the actor also came under fire. Following Khan’s remarks, Hafiz Saeed, the founder of Lashkar-E-Taiba and one of the most wanted terrorists, declared that Shah Rukh would be welcomed in Pakistan and allowed to reside there for as long as he pleased. The actor later criticized his remarks, though.

• Moreshwar Ajgaonkar, Shah Rukh’s former confidant and chartered accountant, informed income tax officials in 2018 that SRK had purchased his Alibag plot with forged documents. According to reports, King Khan bought farmland to use for farming but instead built an opulent mansion on it.

• On November 12, 2022, after arriving from Dubai at around 12:30 am, he was held for several hours by the Customs Department at Mumbai International Airport because of some expensive watches he was carrying. Shah Rukh Khan’s bodyguard Ravi Singh was held with his bags while his manager Pooja Dadlani was later permitted to return home. The actor’s luggage contained a few expensive watches, including empty cases, for which customs duty had not been paid, according to customs officials. Following the payment of the customs duty, Shah Rukh’s bodyguard was released.

• After Priyanka Dixit, an IAS candidate, filed a complaint against Shah Rukh Khan and a Byju employee for alleged “fraudulent behavior” and “unfair trade practice,” the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, issued an order against them on April 26, 2023. Priyanka enrolled at a Byju coaching center to become an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. Priyanka Dixit, the complainant, deposited Rs 1.08 lakh in fees at the time of admission in 2021. The commission ordered them to return the money along with 12 percent annual interest. In addition, the commission mandated that they pay her Rs 50,000 in compensation for her emotional and financial suffering and Rs 5,000 as litigation costs. The local manager of Byju and Shah Rukh Khan is required by the commission’s order to pay the sum “jointly or severally” to Dixit. Dixit claims that she joined Byju’s after being moved by an advertisement starring Shah Rukh Khan.
