Controversies • On June 9, 2013, Warner attacked England’s Joe Root in the early hours of the Walkabout bar in Birmingham, just hours after Australia lost an ICC Champions Trophy match to England at Edgbaston. The Australian Cricket Team responded forcefully to Warner’s actions, announcing that he would forfeit the remainder of the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy and the tour matches in addition to being fined £7,000 (AU $11,500). In defense of his actions, Warner claimed that Joe’s mocking of South African batsman Hasim Amla was the catalyst for Warner’s actions.

• On March 4, 2018, after tea on the fourth day of the first Test in Durban, Warner and Quinton de Kock exchanged offensive words on a stairway as players from South Africa and Australia were making their way back to their dressing rooms. After this event, the ICC penalized Warner by taking away 75% of his match pay and awarded him 3 demerit points based on the video footage. De Kock, on the other hand, received one demerit point and a punishment equal to 25% of his match cost.

• On March 24, 2018, Australia’s Cameron Bancroft was captured on camera tampering with the ball with a little yellow object during the twilight session of the third day of the Test match between Australia and South Africa. over the post-game news conference, Bancroft said that he was attempting to modify the ball using yellow tape fastened to some padding. The team’s captain, Steve Smith, was fully aware of this, as it had been organized over the lunch break by the “leadership group.” Following the investigation, Cameron Bancroft was barred from playing domestic and international cricket for nine months, and Steve Smith and David Warner were banned for a year.
